This website, like the chapter itself, is a resource for the women of the Tennessee Valley who contribute to the Nation's defense through their service in the military, the Department of Defense or private industry.  We'll bring you news about chapter activities, will provide insights and advice from local government and industry leaders, will profile successful women in the Tennessee Valley region, and will provide coverage of a wide-range of topics of interest to women pursuing careers in the defense industry, and in the  Department of Defense.

As the president of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of Women in Defense (TVC/WID), it is my responsibility to provide WID members the environment needed for their professional growth and development.  To do this, we will continue our educational and networking programs while striving to increase our membership and our influence within the Huntsville defense community.

One focus during my tenure will be to welcome our incoming BRAC workforce and their families.  To do this, TVC/WID intends to host a series of welcoming receptions and other sponsoring activities.

Another focus will be to increase our visibility in the community.  Currently TVC/WID supports the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense (JIAMD) Summit and the Space and Missile Defense (SMD) Conference.  As we continue this support, we will be seeking out other well-known and highly visible venues to further the development and growth of our organization.  You can help in this endeavor by identifying likely candidate activities.

Each year, TVC/WID has an annual outreach project.  This year the President’s Project is breast cancer awareness.  We hope to add increased emphasis in the areas of current breast cancer research and treatments.

The Board of Directors, will continue to foster increased membership participation and involvement in TVC/WID activities.  In years past, much of the formal WID participation has been limited to the officers and board.  This is changing to include general involvement by the membership at large through the development of committees to satisfy much of our precision planning requirements.  These committees should also help us identify further areas of potential community involvement.

The Board is directing considerable energy at increasing our total membership.   This is aided by our mentorship luncheons which we host three or four times a year.  Each luncheon will continue to feature a motivational guest speaker who excels in his/her career field.

Overall my goal is to project a polished and professional image in our approach to external TVC/WID activities.  This will be helped greatly as we formalize of procedures and processes both for individual and for committee involvement.

As always, your suggestions are valued and encouraged.
