Volunteers
are needed to staff the Headquarters for the Madison County Veterans
Memorial.
If you are at all interested in helping, want more information, etc. -
will you please join us?
To give us some idea of many people to plan for, please contact David
Carney and let him know you are interested? [phone: 652.2460,
email:carney50@mchsi.com]
Tom Dunn, a member of our Madison County Hall of Heroes (Bronze Star -
Vietnam) and a board member of the Madison County Military
Commission, has volunteered to be the (unpaid) Executive Director of
Operations on behalf of the Madison County Military Heritage
Commission, the lead organization for the management role. The
overall leadership is by the Veterans Coalition - which includes all
48 affiliate member organizations. This should spread the volunteer
pool across every organization in the area.
This is a project by Veterans, for Veterans, and every person who
appreciates the freedom our Veterans gave us and continue to give
us.
I hope that every organization will help and will "take ownership" of the
Memorial by saying "We want to help."
The Commission (and most any other organization) does not have the staff
to man the office every day on an extended basis. So, the only way
to make this work is to ask for volunteers from across the Community
to help manage the office on a roster rotational basis. Tom will
manage this schedule.
Duties will be specified and limited according to the volunteers'
abilities.
Which means, this notice is a beg and a plea for individuals who would be
willing to help staff the office on a limited part time basis. We
are not asking for full time volunteers. We will work to your
schedule and requirements. So just let us now if you are interested
and then we can talk more from there.
The office is at 403 Franklin Street - downtown - a block from the
square.
It is a very nice place. The office, originally built in 1892, as a
private home has been donated free of cost. We plan to have a ribbon
cutting ceremony in about two weeks - so more information on that
soon.
Please contact me soonest if you are interested in helping in the office.
